I spend a lot of time observing nature, trees, and birds whenever I travel to my hometown in Konkan. I am very passionate about nature in Konkan due to its scenic beauty, rich biodiversity, and cultural significance. The region has a unique ecosystem that supports a range of flora and fauna, including wide variety of bird species. The Western Ghats mountain range, which runs through the region, is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots and home to many rare and endangered species. The region’s diverse habitats, such as mangroves, forests, wetlands, and beaches, provide suitable breeding, feeding, and nesting grounds for many bird species like Kingfishers, Egrets and herons, Seabirds, Raptors and Waders. Konkan is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with a variety of habitats and bird species to explore. Birdwatchers can experience the region’s rich avian diversity by exploring its wetlands, forests, hills, and beaches, making it an ideal destination for bird enthusiasts.

The Big Year, the movie revolves around the competitive birdwatching event, which may not be familiar or interesting to everyone. Some viewers may initially feel skeptical or uninterested in the movie’s premise, but as they watch the film and learn more about birdwatching, they may become intrigued and even passionate about the activity.

“The Big Year” is a comedy-drama movie released in 2011, directed by David Frankel, and based on the book “The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession” by Mark Obmascik. The movie is based on a true story of a competitive birdwatching event in North America, where birders compete to see who can spot the most bird species in a year. And I would be interested in creating a remake of this movie for the Konkan region.

The movie stars Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson (my favorite actor, can be compared to Amol Palekar in Bollywood) as the three bird enthusiasts who embark on the competition. Steve Martin plays Stu Preissler, a wealthy businessman who decides to retire and pursue his passion for birding. Jack Black plays Brad Harris, a young birder who is eager to break the record for the most birds seen in a year. Owen Wilson plays Kenny Bostick, a legendary birder who has already won the competition multiple times and is determined to keep his title.

The movie is beautifully shot and showcases some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America. The filmmakers have done an excellent job of capturing the beauty of the natural world and the thrill of birdwatching. The scenes featuring different bird species are fascinating, and the film also provides interesting facts and information about each bird.

The film’s main focus is on the characters and their relationships with each other. Stu, Brad, and Kenny are very different people with contrasting personalities and backgrounds, but they share a common passion for birdwatching. The movie explores their motivations for competing and the sacrifices they are willing to make to win.

The performances by the three lead actors are outstanding. Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson are all excellent in their roles, and they bring depth and nuance to their characters. The supporting cast is also impressive, with notable performances from Rashida Jones, Anjelica Huston, and Jim Parsons. As someone who regularly watches Big Bang Theory, it was amazing to see Jim Parsons in this movie with a small role.

As a nature enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for movies that celebrate the beauty and diversity of our natural world. That’s why I was drawn to “The Big Year,” a 2011 comedy-drama film directed by David Frankel, based on the book “The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession” by Mark Obmascik.

What I love about this movie is how it celebrates the passion and dedication of birdwatchers, or “birders,” as they’re called. These individuals are not merely hobbyists, but rather serious naturalists who devote their lives to observing and studying birds. The movie beautifully captures the thrill of spotting a rare or elusive bird species, as well as the camaraderie and sense of community among birders.

As someone who is fascinated by the natural world, I found “The Big Year” to be a delightfully entertaining and informative movie. It reminded me of the importance of pursuing our passions and appreciating the beauty and diversity of nature around us. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves nature, comedy, or heartwarming stories about human achievement and camaraderie.

My future goal is to launch a website or magazine that offers comprehensive information about the birds I have observed and captured in photographs.
